POPULATION, INTERVENTION, COMPARISON, OUTCOME (PICO): ENHANCEMENT AND LITERATURE REVIEW ASSIGNMENT INSTRUCTIONS

OVERVIEW
You will have the opportunity to refine the clinical question (PICO) for the proposed scholarly
project as a part of this assignment. In addition, you will add to the articles for the literature
review in support of your project. Finally, it will be necessary for you to complete the Scholarly
Project Pre-Approval Form. It is important to follow the instructions closely for this portion of
the assignment. Timely completion of this form will facilitate the selection of a project chair for
you.
INSTRUCTIONS
In assignment two you will be engaged in activities that will support the refining or revising the
PICO question for your scholarly project, expanding the literature matrix for the scholarly
project, and completing the Scholarly Project Pre-Approval Form.
In preparation for completing the assignment:
 Review the video on developing the clinical question using the PICO format.
 Review the video on developing a literature review
 Review the document on what a scholarly project is and what it isn’t
Once you have reviewed the required materials complete the following components of
The assignment:
1. Develop the PICO (clinical question) using the PICO worksheet provided.
2. Secure a minimum of ten articles to develop your literature matrix for your phenomenon
of interest as they pertain to the proposed topic for the scholarly project. Place the articles
in a literature matrix, provide the level of evidence, and provide complete details of the
articles per the headings on the literature matrix. Use Melnyk Levels of evidence to
evaluate the selected articles. The articles are to have been published within the last 3 – 5
years in peer reviewed journals.
3. Complete the Scholarly Project Pre-Approval Form based on the best information you
have related to the scholarly project you are considering. Be sure to provided sufficient
details as to clearly reflect the purpose, intervention, and desired outcomes of the project.
4. Submit the PICO and literature matrix as one document. Include a title page and
reference list using current APA format.
