Building a Portfolio- Jewish Education

Putting all of the pieces together: Building a portfolio.

Our work in this course has involved examining the component parts of a model for Israel education. For your final assignment, we’re interested in you putting all of the pieces together. (To some extent that is also what I have tried to do in the course’s final video).

In procedural terms, almost all of the course’s assignments involved working in groups. These have enabled more intensive interactions between members of the course, but they don’t allow your own individual voices to be heard. Your final assignment is a chance for you to put your own stamp on this work.

To achieve these goals, we ask you to take the work you have completed and to assemble it as a portfolio. This portfolio allows you to exhibit the different threads of your efforts, and at the same time weave those threads into a single fabric that is distinctively yours.

There are two steps here:

First, you are welcome to revise any of the assignments you have submitted, so as to turn them into your own work. This might mean simply tweaking some of the things you wrote, or it might mean substantially revising them, as you wish.

The relevant assignments are:

1.9. Applying Sinclair’s frame to high school students

6.7 Analysis of the Gann Academy

8.7 Ritual Analysis

9.7 Curriculum Analysis

Next you should write up some reflections on what these different pieces (and what you have learned from them) indicate about how to do Israel education effectively. Please decide which is the audience you’re most concerned with. Make sure to state what you see as being the goals of Israel education in relation to that audience. And then discuss what you have learned about the most powerful means by which to engage that audience.

You do not need to discuss each of the assignments in the order they were completed. You can weave them together in whatever sequence and shape you wish.

I suggest you write a 5-6 page long set of reflections, and then present the tweaked/edited assignments as a set of appendixes that you reference during the course of your reflections. Organized this way, it will easier to follow the flow of your ideas.
