Alzhemeir’s Disease
Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is a progressive neurodegenerative disorder characterized by memory loss and cognitive dysfunction. It has been shown that stellate cells in the medial entorhinal cortex (MEC) (a major component for the grid cells!) appear to be selectively vulnerable to pathology and cell death in AD patients.
Now, if we want to study the deterioration of spatial coding in the MEC over the development of AD pathology (usually months) in a mouse model, which technology will you choose? How would you design the experiments (hint: how to assess spatial coding specifically in stellate cells, and how to examine deterioration)? What would be the major concerns of using this technology in this scenario? Please answer each question with a few sentences.
