In the book\u00a0<\/span>Door to Door,\u00a0<\/span>Edward Humes explores what he calls the \u201cmagnificent, maddening,\u00a0<\/span>and mysterious world of transportation.\u201d The book gives the reader a behind the scenes look at\u00a0<\/span>various modes of transportation. More important for our purposes, Humes discusses a variety\u00a0<\/span>of characteristics that are shared amongst the modes. Your task in this essay assignment is to\u00a0<\/span>identify and discuss seven (7) specific characteristics explored in the book. More specifically,\u00a0<\/span>your discussion of each characteristic should focus on how it can be used to evaluate and\u00a0<\/span>compare different modes of transportation.<\/span>Let\u2019s look at an example that is not explicitly discussed in the book (hence one that you should\u00a0<\/span>not use). If you chose\u00a0<\/span>noise<\/span>\u00a0as one of your characteristics, you would describe how this\u00a0characteristic is discussed in the book. How is it measured? How do the modes compare in\u00a0<\/span>terms of noise? What are the challenges for resolving the issue of noise? What are the\u00a0<\/span>prospects for mitigating the negative impact of transportation noise in the future?<\/span>Begin your essay with an introductory paragraph that identifies the seven characteristics you\u00a0<\/span>are going to discuss and gives the reader a sense of how you plan to discuss them.<\/span>Your essay must be no less than 5 double-spaced pages and no more than 6 double-spaced\u00a0<\/span>pages of 12 pt. text with one-inch margins all around. Do not include a separate title page. Be\u00a0<\/span>sure to include your name, the course number, and the date in single-spaced format in the\u00a0<\/span>upper left-hand corner of the first page. Provide a descriptive title for your essay centered on\u00a0<\/span>the first page. Do not include a running head but do include page numbers centered at the\u00a0<\/span>bottom of each page. Save your document using the appropriate filename syntax noted in the\u00a0<\/span>course syllabus.<\/span>Important note:<\/span>\u00a0Do not quote from the book. The essay should be your own writing about the\u00a0characteristics with support from examples mentioned in the book.<\/span>You do not need to do research for this essay.\u00a0<\/span>Your discussion of the seven characteristics\u00a0<\/span>should rely on the assigned book and should refer explicitly to specific examples and\u00a0<\/span>information from the book<\/span>\u00a0using the following format. If, for example, you were discussing\u00a0how Domino\u2019s Pizza makes pizza dough, you would include the page number from the book as a\u00a0<\/span>point of reference (p. 138).
