Read “Fairy Tale”<\/u><\/a>\"Preview\u00a0and “Folk Tale<\/u><\/a>\"Preview” from the 2016 e-book titled\u00a0Folktales and Fairy Tales: Traditions and Texts From Around the World,\u00a02nd\u00a0Edition\u00a0written by Helen\u00a0Callow, Donald Haase, and Anne E. Duggan\u00a0to understand the differences between\u00a0fairytales\u00a0and folktales.\u00a0<\/li>\n
  2. Referring to the reading and to your own thinking, describe the difference between folk and fairy tales in a 1 paragraph writing. Remember to properly cite source ideas within the text of your writing as well as in a work cited. Also, remember that a paragraph at the college level should be 7-12 sentences in length.<\/li>\n
  3. Read the first 9 pages of Chapter 1 titled “The Cultural Evolution of Storytelling and Fairy Tales: Human Communication and Memetics” in the 2012 e-book titled The Irresistible Fairy Tale: The Cultural and Social History of a Genre\u00a0\u00a0Links to an external site.<\/u><\/a>written by Jack Zipes\u00a0found in the NOVA online library to gain an understanding for how fairy tales evolved and for their importance to society over many generations.<\/li>\n
  4. Referring to the reading and to your own thinking, discuss the role fairy tales and folk tales have in society. Consider what purpose they serve and why they are timeless stories.\u00a0Remember to properly cite source ideas within the text of your writing as well as in a work cited.
