It must be 5\u20137 pages, submitted as a Microsoft Word document, and follow the format for the degree program in which you are enrolled. The submissions must include a title page, footnotes\/citations, subtitles, pagination, and a bibliography\/reference page.<\/p>\n

The 4-MAT REVIEW system is a way of responding to readings, lectures, and life experiences that requires the learner to interact with new ideas on several levels.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Please use the following format in preparing 4-MAT Book Reviews:<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

    \n
  1. Abstract<\/strong>. Summarize what you have read, \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0boiling the book down into 400-600 words (no more than 2 pages). Prove you \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0comprehend the readings by writing a no-nonsense summary. The abstract is \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0not a commentary or listing of topics but rather an objective summary from \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0the reader’s viewpoint. Abstract equals \u201cboiled down.\u201d This section should \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0include a minimum of 2 footnotes<\/strong> \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0to the text being reviewed.\u00a0<\/li>\n
  2. Concrete Response<\/strong>. Get vulnerable! In no less than 250 \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0words and no more than 1 page, relate a personal life experience that this \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0book triggered in your memory. Relate your story in first person, \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0describing action, and quoting exact words you remember hearing or saying. \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0In the teaching style of Jesus, this is a do-it-yourself parable, case \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0study, confession. You will remember almost nothing you have read unless \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0you make this critical, personal connection. What video memory began to \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0roll? This is your chance to tell your story and make new ideas your own.\u00a0<\/li>\n
  3. Reflection<\/strong>. This \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0is the critical thinking part of the review (not critical in the sense of \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0negative, but in the sense of questioning). In no less than 250 words and \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0no more than 1 page, describe what questions pop up for you in response to \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0what you have read. Keep a rough-note sheet at hand as you read. Out smart \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0the author by asking better questions than he\/she raised in the book. Tell \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0how the author could have made the book better or more appealing to those \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0in your field of service. One way to begin this section is by stating what \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0bothered you most about the book. This is not a place to provide an \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0endorsement or affirmation of the book.<\/li>\n
  4. Action<\/strong>. So what \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0are you going to do about it? In 400-600 words (no less than 1 page and no \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0more than 2 pages) provide 2 actions that describe what changes you are going \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0to make in your life, ministry, and\/or work as a result of your reading. \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Actions should be measurable and reveal a commitment to specific \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0time, specific people, and identified steps.\u00a0<\/li>\n
  5. Please provide a Turabian style*<\/strong> title page, \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0pagination, footnotes & Bibliography.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
