It is important to understand what information systems are and why they are essential for running and managing a business. The case studies below will provide you with an opportunity to review many of the concepts covered in this course. These case studies provide you with an opportunity to critically analyze events that are taking place in real-life organizations. This helps to develop your critical thinking and research skills as you research each of these scenarios.<\/p>\n

For this assignment, you will review four case studies. Then, in a PowerPoint presentation, you will evaluate the studies and respond to each of the questions below, using both critical thinking and theory as well as supporting documentation.<\/p>\n

  1. Based \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0on your reading of the case study \u201cCan You Run the Company with Your \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0iPhone?\u201d on pages 9\u201310 of the textbook, discuss how emerging trends in \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0technology are helping Network Rail improve railway performance and \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0safety.<\/li>\n
  2. Based \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0on your reading of the case study \u201cEnterprise Social Networking Helps \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Sanofi Pasteur Innovate and Improve Quality\u201d on pages 41\u201342 of the \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0textbook, discuss how information systems influenced the company\u2019s \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0organizational strategy. Critique their core information system \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0applications from a business perspective. Analyze how information system \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0projects are aligned with organizational goals and strategies.<\/li>\n
  3. Based \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0on your reading of the case study \u201cMeltdown and Spectre Haunt the World\u2019s \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Computers\u201d on pages 309\u2013310 of the textbook, discuss the ethical and security \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0issues that could result from flaws in central processing unit (CPU) chip \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0design. Assess their procedures for securing information systems.<\/li>\n
  4. Based \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0on your reading of the case study \u201cAbbVie Builds a Global Systems \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Infrastructure\u201d on pages 586 of the textbook, discuss the problems that \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0the company was experiencing as a global enterprise and how the company \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0was able to solve them. Explain their information technology \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0infrastructure. Discuss information system solutions that can be applied \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0to this issue.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    When formatting your PowerPoint presentation, do not use the question-and-answer format; instead, use bullets, graphics, and\/or charts in your slides to identify important points, and then discuss those points in the speaker notes of each slide.<\/p>\n

    Your PowerPoint presentation must be at least 12 slides in length (not counting the title and reference slides). You are required to use a minimum of three peer-reviewed, academic sources that are no more than 5 years old (one may be your textbook).
