The system approach is one of the approaches that I can use as an HR leader to achieve alignment of HR policies and business strategy. Through the system approach, the policies, practices, and stakeholders are identified as separate elements that are interrelated and work together for a common goal. To ensure that I am clear on the business strategy of the organization, the system will be composed of subsystems which will include different stakeholder groups such as the employees relations and the board of directors who will be informed of the core goal of the business and made aware of their responsibility in ensuring the strategic targets are achieved (Bamberger, et al., 2014). Collective decision making between the different stakeholders who make up the organizational system will be used to address existing HR policies by educating them on their needs and addressing any concerns that may arise from imposing them. Collective decision making would be used as the tool to get feedback from the different elements of the system and this would help to identify the policies that hinder the organization’s business strategy (Gratton and Truss, 2003).

Learning and development is another HR technique that I can use to achieve the alignment of HR policies and business strategy (Khilji and Wang, 2006). Through learning and development, the different stakeholder groups get an opportunity to be educated on the business strategy of the organization and how it aligns with the vision, mission and core values therein (Khilji and Wang, 2006). Moreover, the stakeholders become aware of their role in ensuring that the strategic goal is achieved. Learning and development programs will also seek to ensure that the stakeholders identify the external factors such as laws and regulations that influence business to help them appreciate the existing HR policies, especially those imposed by outside entities. Through the discussions in the learning programs, the stakeholders will be required to provide their feedback on the HR policies and this will help to identify those that hinder the organization’s business strategy.

References

Bamberger, P., Biron, M. and Meshoulam, I., 2014.
