and thomas paines"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p><span><span><strong><span>The Exam Questions<br \/><\/span><\/strong><br \/><span>There are two essay questions.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><br \/><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span>Answer both questions,\u00a0using\u00a0approximately two\u00a0to three pages for each question.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span>Answer them in a way that weaves the questions together into one\u00a0coherent essay.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span>Make sure your answers employ and reference the terms and ideas covered in our\u00a0course readings and online lectures.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span>Give examples to support your ideas and be specific.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span><br \/><strong>Question One<br \/><\/strong><br \/>Our lectures have discussed the &#8220;Pillars of Citizenship&#8221;:\u00a0\u00a0<br \/><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span>The Declaration of Independence (1776)<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span>The US Constitution (1787)<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span>and the Bill of Rights (1789)\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span><strong>Please answer:\u00a0\u00a0<br \/><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span><strong>What do these documents specifically\u00a0argue for,\u00a0what do these documents argue against, and how\u00a0a<\/strong><strong>re these arguments in\u00a0conflict and \/ or harmony with each other?\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span><span>Brainstorm key terms to get you started: &#8220;self-evident&#8221;, why\u00a0must\u00a0Congress publish its dealings?, does permanent rebellion clash with law and order?\u00a0 \u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><br \/><span>Question Two<\/span><br \/><\/strong><br \/><span>In contrast to the three &#8220;pillars&#8221;, we have also discussed the fourth &#8220;pillar&#8221;, grassroots activism of African-American citizenship during American Revolutionary times.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Our class\u00a0readings\u00a0also mentioned other marginalized, or excluded groups, such as\u00a0poor white farmers, women, and &#8220;Indians&#8221; as excluded from the &#8220;cornerstone&#8221; documents.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span><strong>Please answer:<br \/><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span><strong>Why\u00a0would\u00a0Thomas Paine&#8217;s democracy be in\u00a0favor of the above\u00a0grassroot group\u00a0movements, and\u00a0absolutely love their ability to improve our notion of communication and citizenship?\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span><span>Brainstorm key terms to get you started: being &#8220;sober and orderly&#8221;, &#8220;walk worthy&#8221;, why is it important to &#8220;extend the sphere&#8221;
